List of approved locks

Definition on an approved lock

In making your application for cycle insurance you will have understood that part of the security requirements for the Insured cycle is the use by you of an Approved Lock, when the cycle is left unattended. It is extremely important for you to be absolutely clear what we mean by the term ‘Approved Lock’.

An 'Approved Lock' is one which appears on the website of a division of the Master Locksmiths Association under the brand ‘Sold Secure’ – see www.soldsecure.com

All the locks listed on that website have been tested and are deemed to be to ‘Sold Secure’ standard. The locks are graded according to their strength, reliability and sophistication into three categories, as follows:

Bronze Rating

The Locks which are Bronze rated are suitable only for cycles up to €250 replacement value, and we consider all of these locks to be approved.

Silver Rating

The locks which are Silver rated are suitable only for cycles up to €1500 replacement value, and we consider all of these locks to be approved.

Gold Rating

The locks which are Gold rated are suitable only for Cycles €1500 or over replacement value, and we consider all of these locks to be approved.

Please note that the locks shown on the ‘Sold Secure’ website in each of the above categories are the only locks which we consider to be approved. In the event of a claim you will need to provide us with evidence that you owned and were using an Approved Lock at the time the cycle was stolen. If you are not currently using an Approved Lock you must replace it with one that is approved or face the possibility of having a claim disallowed.
